A Continuing Care Retirement Community in Western New York

The decision to move into an Assisted Living facility can be difficult for Mom, Dad
and even the children and loved ones. But in most cases, the quality of life for our Residents improves almost immediately. Residents become more sociable, attentive to the things around them. They eat meals on a regular basis with old friends or new. While they may need a little assistance or in some cases, more assistance, most Residents live an even more independent life than they did on their own.

        LONG TERM

The best thing you can do for you and your loved ones is to begin the process of "Long Term Planning".
Now there are many different definitions of "long term planning", but the final determination is the same; to
prepare yourself and your family for your future. Whether it is simply gathering all of your important paperwork
and documentation. Making copes and placing them in a safe and secure place where you can find them when you need them. Or planning your financial future and where you'll want to live when the time comes for you to make a decision. And therein lies the difference; making it your choice, your decision after careful consideration instead of a "necessity" because you've waited too long.

A Fredonia Place associate once said, "I've never known
anyone who moved in too early.." This is so true on so many
levels. While you think you may have independence staying at
home, trapped in your house with little to no activity, the truth is,
you need more activity in your Golden Years to maintain both
physical and mental health. Odds are when you are asked how
often you eat, your response will be "Oh, I eat when I am
hungry." And even greater odds are that you aren't receiving
the number of nutrients needed to maintain a healthy body and
lifestyle. That's where we can help. Waiting until the decision is
no longer yours is not the right thing to do. Visit several facilities,
find a community you like. And remember, at Fredonia Place,
you aren't entering our business, we're working in your home.

Estimates are that at least 60% of people will need assistance
of one form or another in their later years. You may never need
this type of care, but you never know, a fall, a lengthy illness,
fear of being alone or sudden injury can change your world
instantly. Why wait? Determine your needs by speaking with your physician.
He or she can help you determine what your possible needs may be in the
future. He or she might even be able to recommend facilities in your own
city, town or state.

Things to consider when you are planning:

  • Where do I want to live? What community? Do I want to remain in my current community or make a change?

  • What can I afford? You'll be amazed at the different pricing levels for different facilities and compare

  • What should I be looking for?

  • Cleanliness - is the facility clean?

  • Services - do they take me to my nearby appointments? Is there a charge for such a service? Do they help me
    with my medications?

  • Security - how safe is the surrounding neighborhood? Would I like living there?

  • Additional Financial Help - do I qualify for V.A. Benefits? Do they take long-term care insurances?
Should I be purchasing long-term care insurance and when should I start?

  • Apartments or Rooms - Am I looking for a full-sized apartment? An efficiency apartment? What am I looking for in
    my search?

  • How much do I have to spend - have I researched all of my financial options? Did my spouse have other accounts
I wasn't aware of? How much do I have in savings? Investments? Retirement?

  • Is it an active community - how active are the residents. Are there things to do? Do we take trips? Have clubs or other social activities?

  • What is included in the price of the rent - TV? Internet? Utilities? Is it an "all-inclusive" price or a "menu selection" of offerings?

  • What will I do with my current home - sell it? Keep it for a family member? Rent it?

These are just some of the questions your should be asking yourself. But don't do this alone. Gather family members,
friends and loved ones.
